We even changed our bedroom to the double room so our kids will be closer to us and do not have to walk a long distance anymore. We did co-sleeping from beginning when Tea was a newborn, she was so small so we wanted to protect her and breastfeeding was so much easier too. Though, we never imagined it will keep us busy for more than 5 years. They need us, so we will be there for them and give them as much comfort as they need. Probably at 16, they will stay in their bed and prefer it that way.
Just a few minutes ago, I read an article from the UK. They actually recommend and say kids need their parents closeness till the age of five during the night. It makes the children more likely to grow up as calm and healthy adults.
I my opinion, training children to sleep alone from a few weeks old is harmful, any separation from a parent increases their level of stress hormones such as cortisol. Even proven that a child separation from a parent experienced , give us similar brain activity as it would be a physical pain experience.
